  • How do Enriched Being grow their microgreens?
At Enriched Being, we use sustainable, low-impact indoor vertical farming techniques to grow our microgreens. Our process relies on organic methods, avoiding harmful pesticides and chemicals. We carefully control the growing environment to ensure optimal conditions for nutrient-rich, flavourful microgreens. By harvesting to order, we ensure that each batch is as fresh as possible, providing maximum flavour and nutritional benefits.
  • Is Enriched Being Organic certified?
No. Unfortunately it is not currently possible to get organic certification as we do not grow in the ground. We do however use organic certified seeds, use coco coir as our growing medium which is organic and vegan friendly, and also use organic seaweed nutrients.
  • How does Enriched Being prioritise sustainability and contribute to a circular economy?
At Enriched Being, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our microgreens are grown using sustainable, low-impact indoor vertical farming techniques, which require less water and space compared to traditional farming. We minimize waste by using recyclable packaging, and our entire process is designed to support a circular economy. This includes repurposing any organic waste into compost or feed, and reducing our carbon footprint through local production and delivery. Our commitment to sustainability ensures that we produce fresh, nutrient-dense food in a way that respects both the environment and future generations.
  • How fresh are Enriched Being's microgreens and microherbs when delivered?
Our microgreens and microherbs are harvested to order and delivered at peak freshness, typically within 24 hours of being cut. This ensures you receive the highest quality, nutrient-rich produce every time. Keep them refrigerated, and they will stay fresh for up to a week or more!
  • What makes Enriched Being's microgreens worth the price compared to cheaper alternatives?
While cheaper options exist, Enriched Being offers premium, locally grown, organic microgreens that prioritise quality, freshness, and sustainability. Our microgreens are harvested to order and delivered within 24 hours to ensure maximum nutrition and taste. Chefs and customers regularly tell us our microgreens are tastier, fresher, and last longer than others. Plus, we use sustainable practices and recyclable packaging, making our microgreens a healthier choice for both you and the environment.
  • What are microgreens?
Microgreens are young, edible plants harvested at an early stage of growth, typically just after the first leaves develop. These tiny, nutrient-dense greens are packed with flavour and offer a variety of health benefits. They are grown from the seeds of vegetables, herbs, and other plants and can be harvested in as little as 7 to 28 days, depending on the variety. Microgreens are often used as a garnish, in salads, sandwiches, smoothies, and more, adding vibrant colour and fresh taste. Popular varieties include broccoli, radish, pea shoots, and sunflower.
  • Are microgreens the same as sprouts?
No, microgreens and sprouts are not the same, although both are young plants. Sprouts are typically harvested much earlier, usually just a few days after germination, and the entire sprout (including the seed, root, and shoot) is consumed. Microgreens, on the other hand, are grown longer and are harvested after they develop their first true leaves. Only the stems and leaves of microgreens are eaten, and they require soil or a growing medium, whereas sprouts are grown in water. Microgreens tend to have more intense flavour and higher nutritional content compared to sprouts.
  • Why are microgreens more nutrient-dense than mature plants?
Microgreens are packed with more nutrients because they are harvested at an early stage of growth when the plant's nutritional content is highly concentrated. During this stage, the young plants have all the nutrients they need to grow into mature plants, which leads to higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in microgreens compared to their fully grown counterparts. Studies have shown that microgreens can contain up to 40 times the nutrient density of mature vegetables, making them a powerhouse of nutrition in a small package.
  • What is the difference between microgreens and microherbs?
Microgreens and microherbs are similar in that both are young, edible plants harvested at an early stage. The key difference is that microherbs are specifically the young versions of herbs, like basil, coriander, or parsley, and they are often grown for their strong flavours and aroma. Microgreens, on the other hand, come from a wider range of plants, including vegetables like broccoli, radish, or peas, in addition to herbs. While microgreens can have a mild or bold flavour depending on the variety, microherbs tend to have a more intense flavour profile since they come from herbs that are already known for their aromatic qualities.
  • How do I use microgreens and microherbs in my cooking?
Microgreens and microherbs can be added to almost anything! They're best enjoyed raw to get the most nutritional benefit, as cooking can reduce their nutrient content. Sprinkle them on salads, sandwiches, eggs, soups, or smoothies for a quick and easy nutrition boost—just sprinkle on and enjoy! If you want to get a bit more creative, they're a great alternative when making sauces or infusions and add a flavour punch to pestos and houmous.
  • Are microgreens suitable for children or pets?
Yes, microgreens are safe and nutritious for both children and pets. They offer a rich source of vitamins and minerals, making them a healthy addition to meals or snacks. However, it's best to introduce them in small amounts and consult with a vet before feeding microgreens to pets, especially if they have any dietary sensitivities.
  • What varieties do you grow?
At Enriched Being, our core microgreen varieties, available weekly, include organic pea tendrils, organic sunflower shoots, organic broccoli shoots, organic red cabbage shoots, and organic rambo radish. We also grow additional microgreens and microherbs to order, such as nasturtium leaves, red sorrel, micro-coriander, popcorn shoots, beets, and red amaranth. From time to time, we introduce special varieties, so keep an eye out for exciting new additions!
  • How long do they take to grow?
Depending on the variety anything from 12 days - 28 days. Our core range can generally be ready harvest within 2 weeks.
  • How do I keep the microgreens fresh?
Our microgreens are packed in recycled plastic punnets, which are curbside recyclable after use. The containers feature an airtight seal to keep the microgreens fresh. For best results, store them in the fridge and ensure the punnet is properly sealed after each use. After removing the portion you need, close the seal tightly and return the punnet to the fridge immediately to maintain freshness.
  • How long to they last?
It really varies depending on the variety. Pea tendrils, for example, last a lot longer. We've seen them stay fresh (when looked after) up to 4 weeks. But mostly, as a fresh produce, they should be good for around 1 week. The chefs that we work with normally comment on how ours last much longer than any other microgreens they are able to purchase.
  • Do I need to wash them before eating?
It's always best practice to rinse them prior to eating and something we would recommend just to wash off any small bits of coco coir (our growing medium) that may be on the stems. However we often eat them straight from the punnet ourselves without doing this without any problems!
  • How do I order?
We have secure online ordering via our website along with options to do a 'one time purchase' or set up a subscription for weekly or fortnightly orders.
